J’ai travaillé sur une série de peintures inspirées par la danse contemporaine car j’ai “baigné” durant toute mon enfance dans ce milieu (mère chorégraphe). De fait, j’ai mémorisé beaucoup d’images et pouvoir m’en saisir en les peignant me permet de les extérioriser. Le rapport image fixe/mouvement m’intéresse beaucoup. Captiver l’œil en transformant le net en flou, le fixe en bougé est un support actif dans ma recherche. Je pratique une peinture très instinctive à l’instar des artistes qui me fascinent : Francis Bacon, Paul Rebeyrolle, Jenny Saville, Vladimir Velickovic, Cecily Brown. Via les couleurs, les coups de pinceaux, la composition, les hors champs et la rythmique de la toile, je cherche cette peinture du geste qui n’altérerait pas la déformation des corps en mouvement. Sans avoir une idée précise du résultat final, je me surprends à suspendre le travail d’une peinture avant qu’elle ne semble finie. Le moment où le peu est suffisant pour suggérer la structure m’intéresse. Laisser ouvert à l’imaginaire du spectateur au moment où la scène commence à apparaître, savoir se stopper avant d’en dire trop, ce qui reviendrait pour moi à appauvrir le travail, voilà ce que j’ai tenté.

I worked on a series of paintings inspired by contemporary dance having been immersed in that environment throughout my childhood, my mother being a choreographer. I have absorbed many of these images as a child and being able to recapture them by painting them allows me to externalize them.

The relationship between the fixed image and movement really interests me. To captivate the eye by transforming the clear into a blur and the fixed into a movement is an active ingredient in my research. I paint in a very instinctive way, following the example of the expressionists who fascinate me (Francis Bacon, Paul Rebeyrolle, Jenny Saville, Vladimir Velickovic, Cecily Brown). Through the colours, brush strokes, composition, background and rhythm of the painting, I attempt to create works which truly represent bodies in movement without distortion.

Without having a clear idea of the final result, I stop my work before it seems finished. The moment where little is enough to suggest the stucture interests me, leaving the spectactor’s imagination open at the moment the scene is starting to appear. Knowing when to stop before saying too much is what I’m trying to do.
