Elles s’appellent Brigitte, Marilyn, Jane, Laura, Ada, Lola ou encore Elisabeth, Paloma, Grace  et Liz sans compter les anonymes. Toutes ont été à un moment de leur vie et parfois involontairement des icônes Pop Art

Emancipation ou aliénation ? Quelle image de la femme les artistes ont-ils voulu véhiculer ? Glorification du « deuxième sexe » ou au contraire attitude misogyne ?  Représentation superficielle et/ou matérialiste ? Peut s’en faut de glisser de l’un à l’autre tant l’interprétation peut parfois facilement conduire au dérapage…

Or, il n’y a pas une seule vérité en Art, seulement une fenêtre ouverte sur le monde qui peut  parfois questionner lorsqu’ il s’agit de  la représentation de la Femme. Et en tant que courant artistique majeur, le Pop Art n’y échappe pas.

Their names are Brigitte, Marilyn, Jane, Laura, Ada, Lola or Elisabeth, Paloma, Grace and Liz, to let alone the anonymous ones. Each of them has been during their life, sometimes unwillingly, Pop Art icons.

Emancipation or alienation?  Which image of the woman did the artists want to convey? Is it a glorification of the « second sex » or, in the contrary, a misogynist attitude? Is it an artificial and/ or materialistic representation? The gap from one to another is easy due to the way one can interpret it. Nearly so to slip from one to the other as the interpretation can sometimes easily lead to slip…

Yet there is not a single truth in Art, but only an open window to the world that can sometimes question when the representation of woman is at stake. And as a leading artistic movement, Pop Art is not an exception to the rule.
